The inaugural meeting of a Special Interest Group in Simulation for Radiography was hosted by the School of Health Science and Social Work on the 18th of July 2012. The aim of the group is to share ideas and good practice and was open to anyone and with an interest in driving forward teaching within simulated practice environments in radiography. The College of Radiographers gave the meeting CPD accreditation and the lunch was sponsored by Siemens.
It was attended by diagnostic and therapeutic radiography lecturers from around the country and was joined by Dr Sarah Owen as academic lead in the Centre for Simulation in Healthcare. It generated interesting debate around the benefits to students of learning in simulation and how this was being delivered within the various courses. Andy Williams and Sue Crabb both gave presentations on the research they have been undertaking in simulation. This was followed by a tour of the facilities within the Centre for Simulation in Healthcare by Mick Harper and of the X-ray room and VERT™ facilities by Sue and Andy.
“We were complimented both on our facilities and on how we are using them to support our students learning,” said Sue
