Ann has recently completed a full-time PhD having successfully obtained funding in the first round of the UK Department of Health “New Researcher Award for Nurses and Professions Allied to Medicine”.

Using a mixed methods research approach she completed a systematic review for the Pain, Palliative and Supportive Care Group of the Cochrane Collaboration on the use of the omega-3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) to treat weight loss in advanced cancer patients, a randomised controlled trial using an EPA nutritional supplement and a qualitative study looking at nurses management of weight loss in advanced cancer patients.

Previous research interests and publications include: four systematic reviews for the Airways Group of Cochrane and a qualitative research project on the use of tilt-in-space wheelchairs for people severely disabled with Multiple Sclerosis.

As well, Ann was involved in the development and teaching of the Postgraduate Certificate in Evidence-Based Practice at the University of Portsmouth and the Putting Evidence into Practice (or PeP) Course, a short duration course for post qualified scientist, therapist and technicians to gain skills in using validated evidence based developments into practice.

In her role as senior lecturer at the School of Health Sciences & Social Work at the University of Portsmouth she is involved in teaching and supporting postgraduate and Professional Doctorate students.
