Biographical details
I obtained my first radiography qualification at Guy's Hospital School of Radiography (SOR), followed by the second at the Westminster Hospital. I was appointed to a radiography position at Ashford Hospital, Middlesex, this was followed by a similar appointment at the Hôpital D'Orbe in Switzerland. Having returned from Switzerland I began employment at Frimley Park Hospital which had just been commissioned. Whilst there as part of my CPD, I studied for my HDCR in partnership with Lancaster School of Radiography and the FETC 730 at Farnborough College of Technology. I left Frimley as the deputy superintendent to begin a student teacher year at the Middlesex Hospital.
Having achieved the TDCR, I moved to Portsmouth in 1982 as Teacher in the School of Radiography and was promoted to Senior teacher in 1984. Whilst in post I studied for the CertHSM. In 1989, I was part of the course team involved in the validation of the BSc (Hons) Radiography, a degree in partnership with the then Portsmouth Polytechnic. In 1994 the radiography staff transferred into the University of Portsmouth. In 1993 I enrolled on a masters course at University of Surrey and in 1995 was awarded a MSc in Social Research. I am currently a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Co-ordinator for the undergraduate radiography courses and short course leader for both radiography and dental nurse courses.
Research Interests
My current research interest is the changing role of the radiographer and I am registered for a PhD with the University. Other interests are the interfaces between diagnostic and therapeutic radiography.
My Role
My role is to provide both academic and clinical education for the students. To support the students' clinical activity I, in common with other staff of the department, visit the students in their clinical placements for tutorial and pastoral activity.
