Associate Head of Centre for Radiography Education

After qualifying as a diagnostic radiographer, Alan commenced his career in radiography education gaining his PhD in Health Education from the University of Southampton. His current responsibilities include being Postgraduate Programme Leader for the MSc Medical Imaging and Professional Doctorate in Medical Imaging.

His main teaching responsibilities include anatomy, health and illness, communication and research skills as well as undergraduate and postgraduate project supervision. Key research interests include health promotion and developing communication and critical thinking skills of health professionals. He is a member of the Society of Radiographers and the Health Education Academy and is registered as a diagnostic radiographer with the Health Professions Council.

His external activities include being an external examiner for BSc, MSc and PhD programmes, a member of the editorial board and reviewer for two international peer-review journals and a member of the College of Radiographers validation panel. He has published a number of journal articles related to radiography education and presented papers and posters at national and international conferences.
