Profile

After qualifying I worked as a diagnostic radiographer for seven years at Southampton General Hospital. One of my posts during this time was as the clinical tutor assisting students with their clinical education. I decided that my vocation was in education and moved to Exeter in 1986 to become a student teacher at the Exeter School of Radiography. On qualifying as a radiography teacher I remained in Exeter, teaching student radiographers. In 1989 I joined the teaching staff at the Southampton School of Radiography where my main roles included the co-ordination of clinical education and teaching physics.

In 1994 I moved to the University of Portsmouth, currently located at the Centre for Radiography Education, St Michaels Building. I am currently the BSc (Hons) Radiography programme course leader.

I gained a Masters degree in Educational Technology (Brunel University) and my research interest is concerned with how health care students learn, in particular how they integrate their academic knowledge with their clinical experience.

My other interests include accident and emergency radiography, medical ethics and occupational stress within the radiography profession.

My role here at the Centre is to provide radiography education, both academically and clinically for student radiographers. As well as my academic commitments I interview prospective students, visit students during their clinical placements, provide tutorial and pastoral support during these visits and also liaise with clinical staff.
