School of Health Sciences and Social Work
Dr Chris Markham
James Watson (West)
2 King Richard 1st Road
After training as a speech and language therapist Chris went on to practice as a specialist in child speech and language difficulties.
However, Chris has always had a passion for evidence based practice, including a commitment to the development of credible research findings. As a clinician, Chris conducted numerous small scale studies and audits, whilst completing an MSc in Health Research and Development. This postgraduate study proved to be a catalyst and contributed to success in securing an NIHR Fellowship (Researcher Development Award). This Fellowship supported a doctoral study developing and validating a QoL measure for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
Chris' current role focuses on supporting professionals applying for research funding, leading a Foundation Degree in Speech, language and Communication Sciences and conducting his own Health Service Research.
In addition to this, Chris contributes to the teaching, research and knowledge transfer activities within the School of Health Sciences and Social Work at the University of Portsmouth.
