Conference themes

The aim of the Language in the Real World conference is to bring together academics and other professionals and provide them with a shared forum in which they can discuss, probe and/or challenge the relevance of (the teaching of) Applied Linguistics for the ‘real world’ outside the boundaries of academia.

The conference aims to approach language and discourse from the point of view of theory, pedagogy and practice within the following broad areas:

  • (critical) discourse analysis
  • business discourse / business communication
  • forensic linguistics
  • The development of teaching/learning materials
  • English/Foreign language education
