It is possible for suitably-qualified students to enter the second or final year of these programmes.
We also offer: MA in Applied Linguistics & TEFL, MA in Communication and Language Skills (more information here); the Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL; pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses and in-sessional EAP support for students across the University. Specialist units in EAP are currently offered to students of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Economics and Computing.
The School has particular expertise with East Asian students and we host a bi-annual international conference in Portsmouth. The conference is also held bi-annually in a location in East Asia and has now been held twice in China. We last hosted the conference in Portsmouth in 2010 and in 2011 it will be held in Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur. Other staff research focuses on aspects of language teaching, bilingualism, content and language integrated learning (CLIL), cultural studies, functional grammar, language and the media, stylistics, and other aspects of language and linguistics. We have growing expertise in the development of web-based materials to support language and content learning.
Our English language provision is accredited by the British Council.
