Profile
I have a BA in French and an MA in Literary Translation from the University of Exeter, where I also completed my PhD in 2012. My doctoral thesis was entitled ‘Conflict and Remembrance in Franco-Algerian Literature, 1981-1999’, and in it I explored the work of four authors who embody the divisive history shared by France and Algeria: Azouz Begag, Mehdi Charef, Mounsi, and Leïla Sebbar. Having obtained my PhD, I joined Portsmouth as a Lecturer in French Studies.
I am currently the unit coordinator of the ‘Nation, Language and Identity’ Level 5 unit, and I also contribute to French language teaching and to study and research skills units. Furthermore, I supervise Level 6 dissertations and work on the ‘Colonialism and End of Empire: France and Algeria’ Level 6 unit. I also contribute to postgraduate teaching on the MA Francophone Africa and the MA Translation Studies.
