Profile

I am primarily interested in all issues related to English as a transnational and deanglicized language. Recognisable names for this area are ‘World Englishes’ and ‘English as a Lingua Franca’. I am also interested in Systemic Functional Linguistics and how it can help us understand the nature and roles of discourse in real-world ‘problems’. Before coming to Portsmouth I taught at Assumption University in Bangkok and, while studying for my PhD, at the University of Nottingham.

I supervise students researching in World Englishes/English as a Lingua Franca and (Critical) Discourse Analysis (including Multimodal Discourse Analysis).
