Profile

I am a Principal Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Portsmouth, where I am Subject leader for MA programmes, contributing to the MA in Applied linguistics and TESOL in particular.

I have been involved in teacher education for many years, including both pre-service and in-service programmes and my main research interests relate to teacher education and teacher education materials writing.

My publications include Cambridge English Teacher: Vocabulary and Pronunciation (Cambridge University Press, 2012), The CELTA Course Trainee Book and The CELTA Course Trainer’s Manual (both co-authored with Scott Thornbury, Cambridge University Press, 2007), Learning to Teach English (Delta Publishing, 2005) and Essential English (Astrel, 2002). I have also contributed frequently to English Teaching Professional and I am a contributing editor for ELT World Online, a journal published by the National University of Singapore.

I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
