Careers Destinations
Students graduating from our department enter a range of occupations. These include coaching, fitness and personal training, health provision, military, lecturing in FE and HE institutions, police service, sports development and management, sports therapy, and teaching. In addition to the taught aspects of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, students may undertake a career related unit for academic credit. We also provide the opportunity for students to undertake a first aid course and various coaching workshops free of charge. Additionally, students can compete for the department’s annual professional development fund to financially support an external professional qualification or career development activity. The department also facilitates a number of internships giving students the opportunity to leave university with vital work experience in addition to their degree. Past internships have been hosted by England Badminton, England Volleyball, Hampshire County Cricket, Hampshire Football Association, Parkwood Leisure, Portsmouth Football Club, Southampton Football Club, Sport Hampshire and IOW, and Surrey Ladies Golf.
Undergraduate students wishing to continue their studies in the department can apply to join one of the department’s MSc programmes (Clinical Exercise Physiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sports Management, or Sports Performance) or the MRes programme. Postgraduate students wishing to continue their studies can apply for a programme of doctoral research.
