Year 3 BSc (Hons) Sports Development students recently enjoyed a day playing wheelchair basketball under the guidance of former GB player Gordon Perry. The students are studying concepts around the ‘inclusion spectrum’, codifying sports based on their participant segmentation groups; in this case disability/paralympic sport. Initially when introduced to the sport they soon realised who had the ability or inability and that it is not  based on perceived disability or those with an impairment. After a while their confidence grew and some exciting games were had. Students are now undertaking some strategic planning to develop their own ‘inclusive’ sports based on the Sport England Innovation funding criteria. These practical activities and experiences will hopefully produce graduates into the sports development sector who can have a real impact on post 2012 legacy.
