Background

Dr Roiz de Sa is a sport and exercise medicine physician and a medical officer in the Environmental Medicine and Science division at the Institute of Naval Medicine in Gosport. He is a graduate of St Georges Hospital Medical School and spent 10 years working in the NHS, seven of these spent in Accident and Emergency Medicine prior to moving to INM in 2005. He is a subject matter expert and the clinical lead for investigating military personnel who have suffered from heat illness and is also responsible for the RN Fitness and Anthropometry Clinic and reporting on lung function testing for recruits to the Royal Navy & Royal Marines. He is also a medical officer at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit in HMS Nelson which specialises in the rehabilitation of injured personnel.

Dr Roiz de Sa has acted as an independent medical officer for a number of INM and Portsmouth University research trials involving human performance and equipment in the hot, cold and immersion environments and has been a member of the Royal Navy Scientific Advisory Committee since 2006. Experienced and qualified in Emergency Medicine, Pre-Hospital Emergency Care and Sport and Exercise Medicine, he is a visiting lecturer and examiner on the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and Queen Mary’s, University of London.

He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine (UK) and holds membership to the College of Emergency Medicine and the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (RCS Ed). In February 2009 he was appointed as a Consultant to the Research Advisory Group for UK Sport.
