Profile
Background
Dr Chris Mills joined the department as a senior lecturer in biomechanics in 2009. He obtained his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Brunel University and his PhD from Loughborough University (2005). Chris worked extensively with British Gymnastics and UK Athletics for a number of years whilst studying for his PhD providing scientific support to many athletes. Outside of academia Chris enjoys several sports, particularly pole vaulting, gymnastics and snowboarding.
Teaching Responsibilities
Chris currently teaches sports biomechanics and related subjects on our undergraduate and postgraduate degree pathways. He is unit coordinator for Introduction to Kinesiology and Biomechanics (Year 1), Tools of Biomechanics (Year 2) and the Project (Year 3), he also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and research projects. Chris is also the course leader for the BSc Hons Sport and Exercise Science undergraduate degree. Chris currently joint supervises three PhD students.
Research Interests
Chris's research focuses on landing injuries in gymnastics with an emphasis on computer modelling and assessing the effectiveness of landing mats on force dissipation. At present Chris's research includes investigating the effects of compression kit on soft tissue movement during impacts.
