Profile

Background

After a career in the sports leisure industry, in 1997, I embarked on the Sports Science Degree at Portsmouth. Having been a keen sportsman all my life this course seemed to fulfil my ambition of gaining a degree, experiencing the University life, improving my job prospects and learning in a subject area close to my heart. I graduated in 2000 and was offered a position in the Sports Science Department. For the last 9 years I have been working alongside highly motivated and dedicated colleagues, where I specialise in coaching and exercise physiology.

Teaching Responsibilities

I am Course Leader for Water Sports Science, which gives me an opportunity to shape the way our students are taught by modifying and improving the curriculum to keep pace with a changing world and work environment. I lecture in a variety of subjects, specialising in coaching and exercise physiology, especially where they relate to water based sporting activities. My role is to educate, provide industry based vocational opportunities and prepare students for their future working and leisure lives.

Research Interests

I have been involved with consultancy work through the department’s Centre for Performance Enhancement, where I have worked with groups such as: GB Underwater hockey team, St. Vincent-Wight cycle team and English junior surf team.
