Profile
Background
I'm currently a lecturer and part-time PhD student in biomechanics. I graduated from this University in July 2006, having completed my BSc in Sports Science. I then went on to complete an MSc in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics at the University of Chichester, graduating in October 2007. I have been researching and teaching back at the University of Portsmouth since March 2007. I am continuing to work towards my PhD, and am part of the Research Group in Breast Health that has been established. I am a trained bra fitter as well as a level 1 ISAK accredited anthropometrist.
Teaching Responsibilities
I teach sports biomechanics and related subjects on our undergraduate and postgraduate degree pathways. I am unit coordinator for The Science of Injury and Rehabilitation (Level 5) and Motion Analysis (Level 6) units, as well as supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and research projects.
Research Interests
My primary research area is in breast biomechanics and breast health and I have been working towards my PhD since February 2008. My PhD is focused on investigating breast support implications for female recreational athletes. I have presented at several national and international conferences. In 2008 I was awarded the Recently Qualified Researcher Award for my research in 3D breast displacement and breast comfort during overground and treadmill running and I was awarded the best student poster award at the British Association of Sport & Exercise Scientists conference in 2011 for my research on the effect on breast support on ventilation and breast comfort perception at the onset of exercise.
