Welcome to the School of Social, Historical and Literary Studies, where we are dedicated to providing a supportive and personal study environment that promotes the potential of each and every student. We are particularly proud of our well-developed research culture and a strong commitment to scholarship and publication, which informs all our teaching and provides an up to date education in an active learning environment.

Undergraduate Courses and Masters Programmes

We have a range of exciting undergraduate courses in five subject areas: English, History, Journalism, International Relations and Politics, and Sociology. 

The School also has a portfolio of taught Masters programmes, including opportunities to study abroad. Our Masters courses can be taken on a full or part time basis and full details are provided under the Postgraduate study link on the left hand side of this page.

Research and Research Degrees

Knowledge Transfer

We are keen to work with the local community and the public and voluntary sector on a regional and national basis. The School can provide expertise in policy areas, research skills and knowledge transfer to a wide variety of partners.
