Dr James Thomas, the longest-serving History lecturer in the School, has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.

The Society, which has worked to support "the encouragement, advancement and furtherance of the study and knowledge of the antiquities and history of this and other countries" for over 300 years, recognised Dr Thomas, Reader in Local and Maritime History, as a Fellow in a secret ballot.  Fellows are held to be "excelling in the knowledge of the antiquities and history of this and other nations' and be 'desirous to promote the honour, business and emoluments of the Society."
