Links Abroad
The School has a variety of links with other universities both in Europe and beyond. These mean there are opportunities for students to include a period abroad as an integral part of their course. This experience can greatly enhance both your educational and personal development.
At an undergraduate level, you can spend one semester in level two studying in the Czech Republic or the Netherlands, or one year in the USA.
The Czech Republic:-
The Palacky University at Olomouc is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Central Europe. Portsmouth students taking courses in Sociology or Politics and International Relations may take part in its Central European Studies programme.
The Netherlands:-
The Hague University of Applied Sciences - a thriving new Dutch university catering particularly for international students - offers opportunities to students taking courses in Sociology or Politics and International Relations.
USA:-
Students taking courses in History, Sociology or Politics and International Relations have the opportunity to spend one year at level two studying at Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
Postgraduate Links
At a postgraduate level the School also participates in the International Masters Programme in European Studies (IMPREST). Students study for one semester in any two of the following universities - Krakow, Aachen, Portsmouth or Maastricht. On successful completion of the programme students receive a double masters degree in European Studies.
The School also runs an MA European Law and Policy programme jointly with The Hague School of European Studies, at The Hague University. Full-time students spend half of the year studying in The Hague and the second half in Portsmouth (see Postgraduate courses).
In addition the School has a postgraduate exchange with the University of Trondheim, Norway. Students from Norway can come to study on the School's MA European Studies programme and Portsmouth students can study in Norway.
Postgraduate students also benefit from a range of other opportunities such as participation in the EU-sponsored Spring School in Krakow, Poland, and visits to the EU institutions in Brussels.
