Profile

Dr. Karen Heard-Lauréote is a Senior Lecturer in European Politics and Public Policy at the University of Portsmouth. Her main expertise lies in transnational networks and their role in and impact on regional integration. She is Chair of the British Association of Centres of European studies (BACES) and Deputy Director of the University’s Centre for European and International Studies Research (CEISR). As Chair of BACES, Karen is involved in the defence and promotion of the European Studies field in higher education, with a primary focus on the United Kingdom. As CEISR Deputy Director, Karen is primarily occupied with the encouragement, support and promotion of high-quality research to enable the Research Centre to maintain its leading position in interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences. In order to do this Karen works with other research leaders to consolidate and improve its position as a hub for high-quality high-impact research at a regional, national and international level.

  • The Experts Group – Faculty Strategic Project exploring the role and impact of experts and expertise on policymaking.
  • British Academy funded project which explores the regulation of expertise in comparative perspective between the US and the EU. 
  • European Research Council  Consolidator Grants - Proposal currently being formulated for a global comparative project between the EU and two other regional organizations to explore the nature and extent of diffusion of the principle of environmental policy integration.
