Background:

After studying together at the University of Portsmouth, three creative technology students - Peter, Steve and Dan - decided to team together to form their own business.

Founded in 2004, LimeKnight design and develop interactive games, viral marketing tools and dynamic applications for mobile devices and the web.

Armed with creative talent, a persistent attitude and technical skills, LimeKnight soon began to accumulate a host of prestigious clients, which now include Warner Brother Records, Pioneer Electronics, SEEDA, City Growth Partnership, Portsmouth City Council, Chichester Harbour Conservancy and, of course, the University of Portsmouth.

Creative Director, Peter Blatchford says "The south coast was oozing with opportunity for a team of user-centric designers like us to  fulfil the demands of local businesses and institutions.  Too many other creative agenices believe that digital media is just another marketing tool, but it's far more important than that now.  With appropriate use, it's a means to gaining a massive competitive advantage".

In the summer of 2005, LimeKnight won an award at the Enterprise Challenge, earning them a swift £1000 reward for their efforts.  This allowed them to spend more time to work on the development of their business.

Managing Director, Daniel Griffiths said "We are passionate about what we do and really enjoy our work which means that we always do a great job for our clients.  We know what's important - and that's satisfying their customers above ours.  It's all about engaging, entertaining and educating".

PCE Support:

LimeKnight are continually grateful to the Centre for Enterprise for all their guidance, support and encouragement.  Development Director, Steven Niewiarowski says "Having a subsidised office and access to business mentors puts us in a unique situation, it enables organic growth of the company without too much financial investment and provides us with great opportunities for networking and referrals".

Regular consultation with business mentors gives LimeKnight the chance to avoid some of the pitfalls that face many small businesses.  Coupled with the practical application, this knowledge has not only been put to good use at LimeKnight, but also within their tutoring positions.  They maintain that "Teaching Student Enterprise is a rewarding experience for both the students and us.  It allows us to converse with other budding entrepreneurs, whilst encouraging us to analyse the effectiveness of our own business".

Future Plans:

LimeKnight are now developing a model that accrues recurring revenue through monthly rental.  This will allow brand managers to customise LimeKnight's games and aptly titled 'traffic magnets' for their marketing campaigns at a fraction of the cost of bespoke development.

Peter says "2006 will be a big year for interactive entertainment and we're really enthused about being a big part of it!  The distribution of our distinctive mobile phone content is guaranteed to strengthen our position in the industry".
