Wednesday 21st April 2010 saw the very first SWAG event take place. SWAG (Students with Awesome Goodies) was organised by a committee of students from across the Student Enterprise units run by the Portsmouth Centre for Enterprise.

Students had the opportunity to sell their products which included t-shirts, bracelets, homemade soap and design your own plimsolls. Around 20 groups of up to five students took part, with all groups making money on the day.

Fellow students and staff showed their support by picking up some great goodies. There was a good range of products at reasonable prices. The quality of some of the products was outstanding.

Natalie Long, senior lecturer at the PCE who helped organise the event, felt it was a fantastic day with a great vibe. "Even if the students didn’t make a lot of money it was a great experience – getting prepared for the event, being there on the day and facing the public. Students are not assessed in these units on how profitable their company is but at the end of the day it is a great way to develop ‘enterprise capability’ and make some money. Groups who had put in the effort were able to reap the rewards for their effort and what a fantastic way to learn and earn!"

The students were each charged £5 for their table and the proceeds are being donated to RAG (Raise and Give). Any money made by the students on the day was theirs to keep. The students all really enjoyed the experience and we hope to make the next SWAG event bigger and better!

Check out the photo's from the event on facebook and if you are interested in purchasing any items you see contact the students direct or email Carley Cummings.

A few special thanks to The Student’s Union for the loan of the marquees and to the Caretaking Team who kindly erected them and to the Catering Team who organised the BBQ all of which added to the success of the day.
