New Theatre Royal Redevelopment
There are more exciting developments for Creative and Cultural Industries students, particularly for those studying or participating in film, television, sound, broadcasting, drama and music theatre.
Dramatic collaborations are starting this spring on the site of the historic New Theatre Royal, a grade 2 listed building situated in the heart of the city.
In a joint £9 million building programme that will combine heritage conservation with modern technology, the original theatre will be expanded and exciting new purpose-built facilities will be added to the site.
Award-winning architects Penoyre & Prasad have designed a four-storey extension that will house a brand new double height studio theatre with specialist technical support and lighting as well as a flexible performance space. Our students will also benefit from a new TV studio and TV gallery, several music practice rooms and more teaching and drama studio space.
The incredible developments to the theatre itself include increased capacity and facilities front of house, new dressing rooms, technical workshops, fly-tower and an education and training centre back stage. These facilities will enable our students to enhance not only their teaching and learning experience, but also their social pursuits and interests.
