- Headphones
- Tripods
- Sound Misc (e.g. poles, softies, leads)
- Sound recorders/Sound mixers
- Lights & stands
- Microphones
- Lighting misc.(e.g. clamps, gels, meters)
- Mains power (e.g. 4-ways, ELCBs)
These items are available to be borrowed or booked in advance on a first-come-first-served basis. Your tutor will indicate the duration of the loan. In times of high demand loans may be shortened to ensure fair access.
How do I borrow equipment from the CCi Equipment store?
There are three stages to borrowing equipment:
Stage 1: Book it using the signed Production Form
It is advisable to book equipment as soon as you know exactly what you need, and when.
To book equipment you must:
- Produce a completed Production form signed by your tutor.
- Present a valid Campus Card bearing your photograph and signature. NO CARD, NO KIT.
Come along to the Store during opening hours, bringing with you your Campus Card and signed Production form.
Details of your requirements (depending on availability) will be entered into the system. The Store Manager will then hand you back your signed Production form and a receipt giving details of the equipment you now have booked. Keep these together safely, and check your receipt details thoroughly.
Stage 2: Collect the equipment
To collect equipment you must:
- Hand in your receipt and signed Production form.
- You will then be asked to sign a loan contract stating that you take full responsibility for the equipment and that you undertake to return it on time and in good order.
Stage 3: Return the equipment on time
Where can I find the production form?
Blank Production forms are available from the CCi Equipment Store or on the university website at http://www.port.ac.uk/departments/faculties/cci/Downloads/filetodownload,100353,en.pdf.
What is the policy on late returns?
When you return the equipment late you inconvenience other staff and students. Often this can mean that another student, or group, is unable to complete their work on time due to your lateness. As a result we take a stern approach to late returns and operate a ‘One Strike Policy’:
If you return equipment late (i.e. after the agreed date/time of return) you will not be permitted to borrow equipment again for the duration of that academic year. If it was a group booking, the penalty will apply to all named members of the group.
If you are unable to return your equipment on time, find someone that you trust to do this for you. If there is an emergency that prevents you from returning the equipment, you should contact the Store Manager as soon as possible.
What is the policy on Lost/Damaged equipment?
If kit has been damaged whilst in your care you will be asked to fill in a report detailing the circumstances of the loss/damage. As you are responsible for the equipment while it is in your care, and you will have signed the loan contract agreeing to fund the cost of repair or replacement, we recommend that you take out some form of short term insurance cover on the equipment or, alternatively, contact your insurer to include the equipment on your household policy for the period of the loan.
If you would like advice on insuring university equipment you may contact Anita Randell on 023 9284 3308 or at Anita.Randell@port.ac.uk
