New Creatives is an artist-led exhibition project, exploring ‘Courage and Determination’ of student work from seven local FE and sixth form colleges led by the University of Portsmouth’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, held at Aspex Gallery, Portsmouth.
New Creatives commissioned artists are Dawn Burnham, Patti Gaal-Holmes and Melanie Rose. University of Portsmouth student artist buddies are Katie Beltrami and Laura Fazackerley.
New Creatives is one of the outstanding projects granted the London 2012 Inspire mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme, which recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games.
The New Creatives project generates relationships, collaborations and a range of materials and interventions that are shown or performed as part of a work in progress producing a legacy of creative partnership in the city of Portsmouth and surrounding region.
The project encourages an exchange of ideas and 'visual correspondence' between the university, aspex and the colleges which has resulted in the development of co-working for a variety of projects such as the Cultural Olympiad and Creative Campus.
