Exhibition Space Proposal Process
The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries have a curated and funded programme of exhibitions and events called Fusion Lab that is scheduled 12-24 months in advance. The funded programme is full until Summer 2015. Each of these exhibitions includes a public and learning programme.
There is a second exhibition space in the new Eldon building available for self-funded and school-funded proposals from University of Portsmouth staff, students and other internal and external creative practitioners and others who wish to showcase work or hold an event. Additionally, the Long Long Corridor and Courtyard are available for just staff and students. Proposals for these spaces should be submitted with as much notice as possible and not less than 2 months in advance. Proposals should respond in some way to the Fusion Lab curatorial concept that can be viewed here, i.e. promote collaboration and partnership working. If multiple proposals are put forward for the same period final selection will be made by Faculty. Proposals must include the following:-
- Title and short description or strap line (no more than 50).
- A CV, artist’s biography and artists statement.
- A minimum 6 good quality jpeg images. File names to include title of work and image courtesy.
- Proposal in no more than 500 words (Appendices are permissible).
- Project Leader or main exhibitor: Name, postal address, email address, mobile telephone number.
- Dates of event, exhibition or event installation, dates of exhibition, dates of de-rig.
- Date and time of Private View, preview, launch, ‘meet the artists’ or celebration event.
- List of artefacts for exhibition or event with dimensions.
- Aims and objectives of the exhibition or event.
- Detail the target audience - public and student engagement plan.
- List and other associated activities or events such as a public or learning programmes, symposia or workshops.
- State if the work is new or has been shown before elsewhere.
- Funding source and exhibition budget breakdown.
- Outline marketing and publicity plan.
- Installation and de-rig plan specifying exhibition/event design and methods of display (materials, plinths, display cases, projectors etc), equipment and tools to be used and who is supplying it, electric and Wi-Fi requirements, names of those installing).
- Details of who will maintain and invigilate the exhibition.
- Details of who will carry out Risk Assessments and H&S Induction before installation.
- Details of who will supply and design the labelling system, text panels, exhibition map (if applicable) and signage.
Final degree show proposals for the exhibition spaces will be decided by Faculty Executive (Exhibitions Management Group). Deadline for proposals will be 31 March each year.
