The Department of Sport and Exercise Science at University of Portsmouth has been rated one of the top three departments in the UK offering sports science based programmes for overall student satisfaction by the National Student Survey. Specifically the 2010 survey reported 95% of the Departments final year students to be very satisfied with the provision offered. The survey also reported the Department to have high levels of satisfaction and be well above the sector average in the other areas recorded in the survey when compared to other institutions that provide sport science related courses. These other areas within the survey include: teaching quality, assessment, academic support, organisation, learning resources, and personal development.

The Department also performed well within the University for all areas of the survey, but in particular, it performed exceptionally well in the areas of teaching quality, academic support, and personal development.

To achieve such a high position is a testament to the Department’s efforts to continually enhance the student experience. Head of Department, Dr Richard Thelwell, said “This is a fantastic result for the Department and the survey is all the more impressive given that it is generated by the views of our own final year students. As a Department we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our students and the results clearly demonstrate this”.
