The University of Portsmouth Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the University of Cardiff, have an opportunity for four students to join their 2013 field course to study 'Primate Behaviour and Ecology' in Borneo.

The course will provide students the opportunity to spend two weeks undertaking a mixture of both theoretical and practical learning elements in a specially designed research centre on the Kinabatangan River. The programme will include lectures on primate behaviour, current topics in primate research and a range of research methods. The trip will allow an opportunity to undertake a mini-project looking at the interactions between mothers and infants or testing responses to sounds produced by humans and other animals.

The field course will allow those attending an opportunity to undertake a mini research project with the expected outcome of attendees leading a short presentation and writing a project report. The trip will also provide an opportunity for students to learn how to write a research proposal (which could be used for future MSc/PhD applications).

As well as these there is the opportunity for volunteers to work as assistant on research projects with chimpanzees in Zambia. This work will examine social communication amongst groups and seeks to further extend our knowledge of positive communication.

*Please note, the field course does not count towards course credits.
