Profile
I am currently the Associate Dean (Students) for the Science Faculty which means that I am responsible for the overall experience that students have whilst studying here. As part of this role I liaise with the student's union and the many University support services, from estates to chaplaincy and counselling. I am a member of the Student Support and Advice Committee (SSAC) which also acts as a forum for all of the student services. In the Faculty I work closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean (Academic) and the Faculty Manager as well as the faculty admissions team. I also lead the Faculty Learning and Teaching Committee which aims to develop the development and delivery of learning, and the learning resources, of the Faculty.
I am also part of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) and teach in the school on a number of units through all years of the environmental science programme.
For the last four years I have been the Portsmouth based co-ordinator for a scheme run by the National Mentoring Consortium which provides mentors from industry for UK based BME students.
I have recently (2010) been asked to take on the role of the University nominated Trustee for the student’s union (UPSU) as the governance of the union changes - reflecting changes implemented by the Charities Commission.
My academic research interests are primarily in magnetism and magnetic materials, non-ionising radiation in the environment, waste treatment and recycling.
Outside of work my main interests are, kayaking, marine technology/history, photography and travel.
