Professional accreditation and e-skills internship

Professional accreditation

The University of Portsmouth is proud to be the first university in the country offering professional accreditation from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) to placement students. In addition to a sandwich degree students who successfully complete a placement in a relevant field to their degree will be eligible to apply for ICTTech and EngTech qualifications.

ICTTech and EngTech qualifications provide individuals with technical and specialist skills as well as interpersonal skills that are important to any organisation and working team. It also provides a recognised basis for progression to further professional qualifications such as Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).

e-skills internship

We were also involved in the design of the e-skills internship, which is a placement programme for IT-related courses designed to boost the employability of graduates. Students undertaking e-skills internships will develop a set of skills and capabilities that are widely valued by employers across the IT sector, and which will help them perform better in their university studies.

Each student will receive a certificate on completion of his or her internship which includes a summary of the skills they have developed. IBM, British Airways and GlaxoSmithKline are just some of the companies already involved.
