I’m here primarily to assist you with developing your mathematical skills. I can also help you find the right person to support your own learning. If I can’t provide the support that you need, I can point you in the direction of the people who can help, for example the Academic Skills Unit or a lecturer from a relevant department.

Some other non-specific mathematical things I may be able to help you with are:

  • making the most of your feedback;
  • presentation skills;
  • organising and planning your work load;
  • referencing and avoiding plagiarism.

What Maths support is already available?

Maths drop in sessions are already supported throughout the week by Maths Café at various times and locations across the University. For more information, please visit their website.

What additional support could be provided by the Learning Support Tutor?

I work with students in the Technology faculty to address individual or small group needs. Students can come to me directly or be referred by a course lecturer or another agency, like the Academic Skills Unit. Lecturers may request me to work alongside them in their tutorial classes to help you. They may also arrange for regular drop in sessions to be available for you to be able to see me to get help specific to your course. These times will be told to you by the course lecturer.

Outside of these classes you may contact me yourself to organise 1-1 sessions to see if I can help you with your specific needs.

In some situations, I may on request be able to provide tailored support to a small group of 2-8 students. You will need to specify a precise topic in advance and I will help if I can. For example, if you and your friends are struggling with rearranging and solving equations, tell me and we could organise a mutually convenient 1 hour slot to examine the basic theory and practise some examples.

Please note though, that I am not allowed to do your assessments or assignments for you! I will help you with the subject matter or, if I can't, refer you to someone who can.

How can you make an appointment?

Email me at address above. Please make sure you tell me what it is you want help with when you contact me.

What should you bring?

Bring any relevant work, documents or books with you to help me to help you. I will not likely have copies of your specific lecture notes and materials, so bringing them along will help me to understand your needs better.

Appointments are by arrangement, normally from 09:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 16:00(Mon - Fri). Times outside of these hours may be possible by special arrangement.
