Profile

Caroline Willett - BA (Hons) (Birmingham), ACA

After qualifiying as a Chartered Accountant with the national firm of Pannell Kerr Foster I gained wide audit experience, particularly in manufacturing.  I then moved first into management accounting for heavy industry at Rugby Portland Cement followed by a post evaluating potential takeover targets for a City energy conglomerate.  In 1987 I moved to a financial controller's post in an American multinational, focusing on strategy development alongside traditional forecasting and reporting.

I joined the University of Portsmouth in 1990, where I haved used by experience and expertise to teach on the accredited accounting degrees in the areas of management accounting and auditing. I was Course Director for the accounting and finance undergraduate programmes for eleven years during which we achieved exceptionally high scores for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey.  During this time I developed an interest in working with local third sector organisations and began to place suitably experienced students with charities to assist them in their accounting and reporting.  This interest has expanded into a role developing student employability, particularly through the medium of work experience.

Research Interests

My early research focused on aspects of performance measurements in the auditing profession. More recently I have developed a particular interest in accounting education. I have also conducted work in the area of trust and fraud.
