Profile
Margaret Yarr BSc(Open), ACA, PGCLTHE
As a principal lecturer in Accounting and Finance my teaching has involved lecturing on a number of units in the areas of Taxation and Financial Reporting.
My research interests are in Taxation and Pedagogy and I have presented conference papers on employability skills and the exploration of the drivers of poor performance in BME students on Accounting Pathways
In the role as Director of Quality and Curriculum I lead the development of quality processes within the Department in response to changing external demands and regulatory change. In the role of Course Director of Undergraduate Accounting pathways I have been responsible for managing and reviewing and developing the various undergraduate accounting and finance programmes. I have also been responsible for liaising with the Accounting professional bodies to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.
I have also been the Accounting Moderator on PBS undergraduate degree programmes delivered in Singapore and Hong Kong under a collaborative agreement and a panel member of a number of validation panels within PBS and University of Portsmouth as well as an external panel member on review of FdA Finance and Law at Bournemouth University in 2007.
Prior to joining the University in 2003, I had spent 20 years as an Accountant in general practice which has given me expert skills and a wealth of illustration so that students are able to integrate learning with their personal and professional experiences.
In addition to my academic qualifications I am a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
