Profile

Joe was appointed as a full-time lecturer for the Department of Economics in January 2005, with his main teaching interests being in the area of microeconomic theory and its many applications, including crime and economics.  Joe has also lectured in the areas of banking, finance and industrial organisation, as well as having managed the final year study independent study project for economics students.

Joe has occupied the role of Director of Undergraduate Programmes in Economics, as well as final year tutor, Chair of Departmental staff meetings, Departmental schools liaison officer and admissions tutor for the European Business Programme.  He has also played a key role in arranging visits from alumni.

In his spare time, Joe is an ardent supporter of Portsmouth Football Club and is a season ticket holder at Fratton Park.  He also enjoys travelling, his favourite achievement in this regard being completion of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.  He also has an interest in history and is a keen fan of the work of Tom Holland

Joe’s research interests include as well as the economics of digital entertainment markets as well as the measurement of efficiency and productivity.  He has published several papers relating to the market for video games. He was also the recipient of the 2011 Neil Rackham Prize for Research Dissemination for his work on illegal file sharing, which investigated the primary economic motivations for downloading pirated materials and making them available to others through peer-to-peer file sharing networks.
