Dr David Duffy
Dr. David Duffy studied economics at University College Cork and Queens University Belfast. David joined the Department of Economics at Portsmouth Business School in 2009.
Prior to working at Portsmouth David was a lecturer in Ireland at the National University of Ireland, Galway and University College Cork as well as spending considerable time lecturing in China. Recent teaching interest include first year economics, contemporary issues in economics, applied economics and topics in advanced macro economics. David is a keen innovator in teaching economics and some of his work on the application of technology to teaching has been presented at the Economics Network’s Developments in Economic Education Conference.
David’s research interests include public finance, public choice, the history of thought and fiscal policy. Recent publications include journal articles in Constitutional Political Economy and the Journal of Public Finance and Public Choice as well as a book on Issues in Public Economics: Public Goods, Public Policy and Taxation.
David has also been active in knowledge transfer activities at University of Portsmouth. This has included commissioned research for Portsmouth Commercial Port and local economic commentary for Hampshire Economic Partnership. David also comments on economic issues for various media outlets.
Other responsibilities of David’s have included First Year Tutor and external examining roles.
