Martin Snell MA (Edinburgh) DPhil (York)
Martin is Principal Lecturer within the Department of Economics. He is also Director of Postgraduate Programmes within the Department of Economics, responsible for the smooth running of the 4 Masters programmes which run under the jurisdiction of the Department. In addition, he is also the University Academic Contact for the collaborative MSc programme run with the TEI of Crete.
He teaches on a range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, his main teaching interests being microeconomic theory, quantitative economics and econometric analysis.
Martin's current research focuses primarily upon public policy issues, including aspects from social economics, health economics, environmental economics and regional economics, but also extends to the economic modelling of macro issues such as foreign direct investment. A more recent emphasis (jointly with Prof Andy Thorpe) has been on the economics of education, and in particular on investigating student academic motivation and success. He has published in a range of academic journals, including Applied Economics, Applied Statistics, Regional Studies, Journal of Regional Science, Urban Studies and Managerial and Decision Economics.
