Dr Liza J. Howe-Walsh BA (Hons), MSc, DBA, MCIPD, FHEA
Liza is an active member of the research team within the Centre for Organisation Research and Development (CORD) (http://www.port.ac.uk/research/cord/). Her main research interests include Global Competencies, Repatriation, Self Initiated Expatriates and HR policy and practice.
Liza has gained commercial experience working overseas within the Finance and Hospitality industries developing Human Resources Management practices within SMEs as well as Multinationals (MNC). Liza's international experience has lead to research interests into the development of leaders. She is qualified to use the Kozai Group's Global Competencies Index (GCI) a psychometric instrument to examine personality predispositions associated with effective intercultural behaviour and dynamic global managerial skills.
Liza gained extensive international HR management and consultancy experience, following a commercial career in Human Resources for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as a Global Mobility Solutions Manager as well as consulting for the University. Liza's consulting experience has included the following:
- HR strategy development within Europe, Middle East, USA and Canada.
- Assessing global competencies to develop future leaders.
- Re-engineering Multinational companies Human Resources Departments to improve efficiencies.
- Seconded to Multinational organisations to troubleshoot working practices and achieve maximum efficiency.
- Management of global team covering three geographical regions with specific responsibility for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
- Provided client briefings on assignment issues, preparing assignees and their families for their secondment.
- Research into International Assignment Policy and Practice. Developing a global key trends paper for clients use published within PwC in 2005.
- One to one consulting with SMEs in general HR.
Teaching
Liza's main teaching activities relate to the Postgraduate professional courses including; International HRM, People Resourcing and Research Methods.
