Margaret Mackay  MSc HRM, BA(Hons), PgDHRM, PgCLTHE, Grad CTI, FCIPD, FHEA

Margaret Mackay is a Senior Lecturer in the Business School and has been Course Leader for the postgraduate degree HRM programme and professional body accredited qualification of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Margaret has a dual management role for the two year part-time study mode cohorts.  Margaret is Unit Coordinator at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and teaches in the area of Strategic HRM, Reward, Talent Management, and Business Skills Development.

Margaret is a Durham University graduate with an HRM postgraduate qualification from Kingston University Business School.

Prior to joining Portsmouth Business School, Margaret held senior HR management roles with the British Council, the UK's leading organisation for educational opportunities and international relations, in London and on international assignment in Colombia, Peru, Egypt and Spain.

Margaret's professsional experience includes strategic HR leadership positions with the HSBC Bank in Dubai, and senior consultancy roles with the Office of Personnel Management in Washington, D.C. with a diverse range of clients such as Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Air Force.

This extensive international experience of organisational cultures shapes a distinctive approach to teaching human resource management and continues to stimulate research into business practice.

Research interests include performance management, business skills development, critical thinking and reflective learning.  Recent research involves identity orientation and continuing professional development.

Margaret is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (FCIPD), a certified executive coach with the Coaches Training Institute (Grad CTI) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
