Prior to joining University of Portsmouth in 2006, Vijay worked for 11 years in various Senior HR positions for the Indian Railways, the world's largest commercial employer. In the UK he has been with HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) for two and a half years. During this period he was also a consultant catering to niche markets comprising Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Asia, Asia Pacific and Europe which mostly included Information and Communication Technology (ICT) but also manufacturing organisations. The remit of his consultancy included advising and consulting on outsourcing/off shoring HR functions to offshore partners in Bangalore and Mumbai in India.

Vijay's administrative roles include Level 2 Tutor for BABA and BABS (Business Administration and Business Studies). This involves organising induction activities and general student support issues and also includes Personal Tutoring. He is also responsible for supervising various Undergraduate and Postgraduate dessertation and ISP projects; Vijay also provides support and guidance to a number of students, drawing on his previous industrial experience and subject knowledge.

  • Cross Cultural Awareness for International Managers
  • Developments and Debates in HRM (Offshoring and its implications on HR)

Apart from the above Vijay is also Unit Co-ordinator for the following units;

  • Organisational Behaviour for Accounting Pathways (ACCA and CIMA)
  • Introduction to Organisational Behaviour (Accountants)
  • Introduction to Organisational Behaviour for students on the European Business Programme (EBP)
  • Managing Business Relationships

Vijay would also be contributing to units on the Postgraduate MSc International Human Resource Management (IHRM) programme.

Research Interests:

Vijay's main research interest lies in HRO (Human Resource Offshoring) and the strategic role played by HR professionals as "Business Partners" in adding value and enhancing business performance in an Offshore Outsourcing situation. He is currently pursuing a PhD (latter stages) on this topic.
