Prior to joining Portsmouth University in 1991, I worked within a blue chip company rising from General Management Trainee to Group Manager within 7 years, managing a division that generated a £12m turnover. Following my MBA, I undertook consultancy work.
Whilst at Portsmouth University, I have held a range of managerial roles within General Management and Human Resource Management Programmes. In addition, I undertake a range of Quality Assurance roles both within and outside of the University.
Lecturing and research span the topic of Organizational and Strategic Change, with a particular emphasis upon Organisational Burnout. I have taught on postgraduate programmes in Rotterdam, Hong Kong, Athens, the Cayman Islands and Guernsey, and undertook the role of examiner for undergraduate programmes in Greece and Turkey. I have held a number of external examinerships, including the Universities of Brighton, Bournemouth, Essex, Leeds Metropolitan and Derby.
I have written in several text books, produced a range of journal articles and presented at international conferences. I am also on the editorial team for the HR Bulletin (CIPD).
Consultancy experience spans private and public sectors, including clients such as Norwich Union (AVIVA), the CIPD, Bracknell Forest Borough Council, the MOD and Vosper Thornycroft.
