Profile

Debbie Reed

I have been a Principal Lecturer at Portsmouth Business School since 2003, teaching and directing master’s level programmes and coordinating subject specialists.  My academic career was immediately preceded by eight years with the British Quality Foundation (BQF) researching and promoting organisational excellence within all sectors of the UK economy, using the EFQM Excellence Model © and the technique of self-assessment.  Prior to that, I was with IBM (United Kingdom) Ltd. for fifteen years handling business and financial planning, human resource management and team working and development.

Research Interests

My research interests lie in four connected areas: Organisational Excellence in the not-for-profit sector, Business Excellence in SMEs, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability and more recently Business Spirituality.  I am part of the ‘URCS’ Research Group: Understanding Responsible Capitalism and Sustainability, within SBS.

Teaching

My teaching is mainly related to Strategic Quality Management and Organisational Excellence and Research Methods but also includes aspects of Strategic Leadership, Culture and Change and Corporate Social Responsibility and two or three Master Classes for the MBA programmes.  In addition, I spend a significant proportion of my time supervising doctoral and master’s level research.
