Martyn Roberts – BA (Hons), MSc, MBA, MBCS.
Teaching Interests
Martyn’s teaching specialism focuses on management use of information systems within business and includes:
Strategic Information Systems,
Information Systems Management,
Business Intelligence.
Martyn also teaches International Business on a number of programmes. Martyn spent a year as part of a Fulbright teaching exchange, lecturing at Humboldt State University, California, USA, in the early part of his career.
Research Interests
Martyn’s research interests focus on the strategic use of information systems in organisations and includes such areas as:
The strategic use of IS by SMEs,
Issues in Outsourcing of IS,
Implications for IS in organisational growth,
The use of IS in eCommerce.
Martyn has presented at international conferences around the world including the USA, Canada and UK, and has published consistently in a wide variety of journals. Martyn won an MCB Literati excellence award in 1997 for his research on information systems and competitive advantage in SMEs.
Martyn has completed a number of consultancy projects involving the implementation of IS in organisations and recently completed a major Knowledge Transfer Project (KTP) involving the strategic use of IS for a well-known air ambulance organisation.
Management Responsibilities
Martyn has undertaken a number of management roles including course leadership, programme directorship and subject group leadership. He has been a member of a number of internal and external course validation committees and served as the PBS quality assurance officer for three years on the University Quality Assurance Committee. He has represented the University at a variety of overseas events, including Malaysia, Thailand, Dubai, India, and Vietnam and has been involved with a number of universities, particularly in the USA and Canada, in setting up international student exchanges.
Martyn has worked as an external examiner for three UK universities.
