Profile

Dr Tammi J Sinha PhD (Plymouth) BEng (Hons) (Sheffield Hallam) PGCHE (Portsmouth)

Tammi Sinha is a Principal Lecturer in the department of Strategy and Business Systems, specialising in Operations Management, Business improvement and Creativity.  I have been a researcher and practitioner involved in process / operations improvement since 1990 where I started my career with BAe Systems – Warton Unit as an engineering apprentice.  I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of sectors as an engineer (defence) operations manager (pharmaceuticals, defence) and a systems researcher (NHS, engineering, furniture, local government), and have developed my approach to analysis and improvement from a hands on approach to learning.  I co run (with Nigel Ward) a community of practice for improvement facilitators which meet every 2 months, where we explore different approaches to improvement.

Research Interests

I am a great believer in linking theory to practice and have been involved with several Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, lately with J S Humidifiers in Littlehampton.  These partnerships with local business are increasingly important for building links with the university sector to promote innovation.  My research agenda includes developing creative approaches to improvement, focusing on the individual, team and organisation. Lean approaches in all sectors and specifically the use of visual techniques to aid operations management and improvement.  I have PhD students in the area of knowledge management, creativity in higher education teaching and lean. I also run Lean workshops for organisations such as the NHS SHIP cluster.

Teaching

I teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the areas of operations management, systems thinking, creativity, and lean principle.  Leading the MSc Leadership Health and Well being which is aimed at directors / associate directors / managers within the health and well being sector specifically in commissioning of services.
