John Walton is a Principal Lecturer at Portsmouth Business School, as well as being the International Co-ordinator for the Business School.
John’s lecturing specialism focuses on strategy and includes units in Strategic Management and Strategic Information Systems; this extends into Management Information Systems and Operations Management.
Research interests focus on the strategic use of information within organisations, with particular reference to achieving competitive advantage through information and systems.
Recent research has analysed the strategic role of information in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, whilst previous research has included analysis of corporate performance management.
In his international role, John has some 14 years experience dealing with the various aspects of international collaboration for Portsmouth Business School. This has included responsibility as Course Director for the development and ongoing operation of four undergraduate degree programmes delivered in Singapore and Hong Kong under a collaborative agreement, international student recruitment for the faculty, and international student exchange programmes.
John has also been invited to lecture on numerous post-graduate programmes in a variety of countries overseas, particularly in South East Asia and the Caribbean. Furthermore, John has been an examiner / moderator for several Portsmouth collaborative programmes delivered overseas in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Bulgaria and Turkey.
As such, John has been a regular visitor to numerous countries, in particular: China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia where, in addition to other responsibilities, he has represented the university at numerous British Council events as well as visiting many local universities and institutions.
