Dr Christine Welch

Teaching Interests

Christine currently teaches in the areas of knowledge management and organisational learning and has, in the past, contributed to teaching of Information Systems and Research Methods at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is involved in supervising a number of Doctoral students, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate project students within her subject area.

Research Interests

Christine’s main area of interest is in Systems theory and practice, and she has been a director and a past President of the UK Systems Society (for which the University of Portsmouth is designated as the Southern Regional Centre). She has been involved in helping the Defence Science & Technology Laboratory to deliver a development programme for Systems capability among its staff and associates. She has published many articles, book chapters and conference papers in the Systems field and other related areas such as systems analysis, knowledge management and organisational learning. Her particular focus is on critically-informed approaches to inquiry and contextual analysis. Christine is a member of the programme committees for the European Conference on Research Methods in Business & Management and the European Conference on Knowledge Management and has been on the Editorial Review Boards for the Informing Science Journal and the International Journal of Knowledge, Culture and Change Management. She has presented papers at many international conferences, including the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 8.3 (Decision Support Systems), and the European Operations Management Association (EurOMA) conference.

Management Responsibilities

Christine has acted as Course Manager for the BA (Hons) eBusiness and BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology programmes, and has also been the Dissertation/Project co-ordinator for undergraduate students in the Department.

In her spare time, Christine likes to listen to Blues music and tries to play the harmonica. She is a season ticket holder at Fratton Park and likes to get to all Portsmouth home matches.
