Dr Mark Xu – PhD (Open), MSc (UCLan), MA (Beijing), , BA (Beijing), Associate Editor of International Journal of E-Business Research; AIM Scholar -Advanced Institute of Management Research; Fellow of Academy of Higher Education (FAHE)

Mark received his Ph.D. in MIS from the UK Open University in 1998, and is currently a principal lecturer and course leader in E-Business, Enterprise System at University of Portsmouth. Mark’s specialist interests are in strategic information management and systems, eCommerce strategy and implementation, and ICT application for healthy ageing and in business enterprises. He leads several research and KTP projects on business intelligence, knowledge management and activating ageing workforce. Mark has over 55 publications including international journals such as Information & Management, Information Processing & Management, Expert Systems With Application. He is an associated editor for the International Journal of E-Business Research and serves in editorial board for a number of other Journals.

Research Interests

Strategic information scanning, refining and reporting; Executive information systems (EIS) and Business Intelligence;   Knowledge management; e-Business strategy; Online security; The application of  Information Systems within organisations.

Teaching

I have been course leaders for MBA (International), BA (Hons) eBusiness, BA(Hons) Business Enterprise Systems and have been teaching postgraduate programme including MBA, and undergraduate programme at all levels on ICT skills for business, Business Information Systems, eCommerce, eBusiness Strategy development and implementation, Enterprise systems Issues.

Current Research / KT Projects

2012 - KTP (£79,020, 24 months) Develop software meeting the emerging demands of clinical communication and workflow between care sectors in UK healthcare.  With Lane Telecommunication Ltd.  Academic support, with Dr P. Scott and Dr J. Briggs.

2011 - sKTP (£40,000) Principal Investigator. Research and develop a new product/service offering for LANE Telecommunications Ltd. With Prof. P Trott.

2010 - KTP (£108,500) Develop and implement a diversification strategy through product/ e-product innovation for Classic Folios Ltd. Academic support, with D. Smith, Dr V. Vyas.
