Academics from the University of Portsmouth Business School began teaching a degree to staff at Vestas, the world’s biggest manufacturer of wind turbines, at their premises on the Isle of Wight in September. This is the first time the course has been taught off-campus.
There are 24 employees at Vestas undertaking the part-time three year Foundation degree in Leadership and Management after a partnership deal was signed between the Danish company and the Portsmouth Business School earlier this year.
James Luter, Director of the Prototype Facility at Vestas, said: “We are delighted to be working with University of Portsmouth Business School. We have important strategic goals to deliver over the next 3-4 years and this programme will form an integral part by helping us link our leadership and management capabilities to the needs of the business. We particularly value the flexible approach offered by Portsmouth.”
Lynn Day, Foundation degree course leader said: “This is the first time the foundation degree has been delivered at a company’s premises and we’re pleased to be able to facilitate this. The course is all about providing flexible learning and is continually being developed to meet the needs of employers.
“It’s fantastic to be working so closely with such an innovative local company and I’m pleased that the Business School can continue to meet the increasing demand for effective leaders and managers in the workplace.”
