Portsmouth Business School
9th Annual Portsmouth Business School Research & Knowledge Exchange Conference
Start date: Wed, 19 Jun 2013 08:30:00 BST
Finish date: Wed, 19 Jun 2013 14:00:00 BST
This event is an opportunity to showcase recent research produced by the School, to network, engage with the wider business and local community and also celebrate success (through the award of the annual Neil Rackham prizes).
The last year has been particularly notable as the School of Law picked up their first major research grant – an award by the Nuffield Foundation to examine shared parenting and contact orders for children whose parents separate. Elsewhere; our Operation Research colleagues are helping to define the architecture for cost-effective European Sea Border Surveillance systems, women scientists in the Middle East hoping to rise to senior positions are being given a helping hand by staff from the Human Resource Management and Marketing Subject Groups, while other widely cited research by Gary Rees and
Sally Rumbles has suggested (unfortunately) that businesses really don’t care how constant change affects their staff.
The Knowledge Exchange team have also been busy, managing to land a £5.3m contract to help train, in conjunction with Cranfield University, the Royal Air Force’s leaders of tomorrow. Over the next five to seven years, our leadership and management experts will develop the abilities of 3,700 RAF personnel a year as part of both initial officer training and senior officer development. Closer to home a team from the Economics subject group are evaluating the impact of the University upon the regional economy, and are in the process of updating their input-output model so we (and local businesses) can gauge the impacts of their activity on the local environment.
