Placement Information: Students

Undergraduate Placements

The Placements office is a one stop shop for all things placement related. It is here to help all Business School students whose degree pathways have compulsory or optional placements built within them.

You must register your interest in doing a placement with us at the start of your second year, at which point you will be given access to all the live placement vacancies. These vacancies will be continually updated on a daily basis throughout the course of the year, but it is up to you to apply to any that interest you. However, the office is open all year round and is able to give you help and advice at every stage of the recruitment process including Cover Letter, CV, Online Application Form, Online Aptitude Test, Telephone Interview, Assessment Day and Interview.

 On successful completion of your placement year you will receive an Employability Certificate for recognition of your achievements.  The placement year will also be acknowledged on your degree parchment. This certificate takes into account your development and proficiency in a work context and personal skills.

Postgraduate Placements

Our full-time students on the Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources Management are required to undertake a placement period in the personnel/human resources function of an organisation.

The aims of the placement are to:
- Provide students with work experience for  up to 23 days within an HR function, so that they can take part in, work-shadow and be exposed to day-to-day HR activities;
- Allow students to develop the skills necessary to be an effective HR practitioner;
- Help students to evaluate different areas of HRM practice in order to formulate career decisions;
- Allow students to undertake project work which provides the basis for the assignments (Management Research Report and record of Continuing Professional Development) required for academic purposes.

Placements may be generalist HR or undertaken within a more specialised area such as training. In the past students have been placed with a wide variety of organisations - public and private sector; manufacturing and services; and of varying sizes.
